I did see that Desperate Housewives show with the mom abusing her kids' medications. What troubles me is that the story was presented in such a way that you laughed about what she was doing. It was not until a few shows later that her problem was addressed. Wonder who saw those episodes and found some sort of comfort they that weren't alone and that possibly the misuse of ADD meds isn't really a big deal?

I am a teacher and I have noticed a significant rise in the use of ADD medications by students who are not suffering from ADD. More education needs to be offered to teach them about the effects of taking these drugs even for a short period of time!

Thanks for bringing attention to this problem. My brother became addicted to Ritalin when he was 14 years old. He is now 19, and has been clean for a year. Yet he still has emotional problems as a result of his drug abuse.

If these drugs are so dangerous, why are they even prescribed? I can see wht they might help someone who really does have ADD, but it seems awfully irresponsible for anyone to use these for recreational purposes.
